Freycinet Eco Retreat is owned and operated by Virgina Cowie and Phillippa Denne, who emigrated to Freycinet from the UK in 2002. Whilst it is a large property, the organisation behind it is very small, and there is much of the characteristics of "Local Hero" about it. The main resident population consists of wallabies, possums, echidnas, wombats, and a range of birds and small marsupials.
